Orchard

Orchard

Our orchard is made up of ancient local varieties (cultivars) from Northern Italy that love the same climate — a true treasure chest of biodiversity.

The orchard is organized as follows:

  • two rows of vines (table grapes)
  • one row of peach trees
  • one of apricot trees
  • one of cherry and sour cherry trees
  • one of plum trees
  • one of pear trees
  • one of apple trees

plus: almond trees, fig trees, pomegranate trees, dwarf and unusual fruit trees, quince trees (pear and apple varieties).

Mulberry

In the past, rows of mulberry trees marked the edges of the fields, and their leaves were the food of silkworms, which were also raised here!

Hazelnut

Introduced in the early 1900s to diversify vineyards affected by phylloxera, it has since become highly valued (Piedmont IGP Hazelnut).

Woad

It brought prosperity to Castelnuovo Scrivia during the Middle Ages: one of the few plants used to produce blue dye (...even for jeans!).

How to behave?

Plants are living beings: they give us oxygen first, and then nourishment.
Treat them with respect and do not harm them!

Enjoy their colors, their refreshing shade on hot days, and their scents, but...
do not pick or remove flowers, leaves, or fruit.
